Trying to be Proactive

Only partially successful I ended up sending my own possible cover off to the publisher with a small rant attached. The book sold out in April and we are half way through August. Apparently the hold up is the design cover so I decided I'd give them one! Took me a couple of hours in Photoshop, but it felt good to DO something. I'm so very tired of having to explain myself to people who understandably want to know where their book is. Rest of Rant Suppressed.

Anyway here's the one I knocked up.

Oh, and we had snow this week down to 100metres with road closures etc, but not enough for anything more than a few snowballs. Caleb was whirling around in the falling flakes at nine o'clock at night, but too much rain in the mix to amount to much. It's been raining for almost a week, and nothing is happening on the house, in the garden and the chooks spend most of their time fluffed up and looking miserable. The goat, Bella, spends most of her time in the carport/Trev's workspace peeing and pooing and making the place smell like goat. On the up side, we purchased the roofing iron today - finally decided after much deliberation that corrogated iron wins the sustainable roofing contest - shingles might have been better, but we're getting older and can't see ourselves up on the roof replacing them when we're 80... though, maybe? I'll go ask Trev...

Looks good to me, except for the typo on the back cover....Not fofor tranport.

Probably should be "Not for transport"

The cover looks great. I also liked the previously proposed idea with the hat etc. Did they/you decide it wasn't what they were after?

Hope it is not too cold for you all at the moment. I know that your house building has slowed down a bit during winter - spring and summer is just around the corner. We are looking forward to getting some 'housey' things done in the nice weather. I am looking forward to your updates.

cheers
Nicole

Really love this one, captures the feel of your story much better than the other prototype for me :)

this design is better than the hat & egg one i think. what was wrong with the cover of the first edition, that you can't use that again?

they don't think it reflects the right image for the market. Eg, more information based now and less that sort of homesteader kind of thing. Not explaining that very well. But I never thought that the current cover really reflected what it was all about in 2005 - so I would like to see something that reflects the intent of the book better, but if I'd known it would take this long then I would DEFINATELY had opted for the old one!

Love the little furry green house and the footprints. Much more user friendly. Steve Payne's comments fit nicely too. Hope the publisher likes it.

I love this one the best...it's more natural, less in your face...the colour is perfect too. Just wonderful all round!

They should give you the job, things might get done on time!

Looking forward to reading it,

Emma
